Ash Wednesday (Many Western Christians)

Starting from the first Christian Church, The Roman Catholic Church, ashes would be put on the people's head in honor of The bible's words "Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust" in the sign of a cross on their forhead.

This is the begining of lent. (For Catholics, Lutherans, and some other Christian Religions.) . The reason they give up something they love is in honor of Christ who did the same for His Father for 40 days, and 40 nights. Lent goes till the day before Easter.

Many Christian religions do not celebrate this. They just celebrate Easter only.
